Children
Growing children's' eyes need regular checkups. You
can do some of this at home by downloading the chart, but every
child should have an Optometrist check his or her eyes before school
each year. Experts agree: every child should have an eye checkup
before school starts each year. Children often think their blurry
vision is normal they don't have the experience to know that
something is wrong. Many learning and behavior problems in school
are solved by correcting a struggling child's vision.

Adults
For older adults, your yearly exam checks not only
for your changing needs for glasses or contacts, but also for
serious diseases that can be detected before you have obvious
problems with your sight. Macular degeneration, glaucoma, and
cataracts can all be detected and treated before they affect your
sight. And, your yearly Optometric exam will also give you early
warning of high blood pressure and diabetes again, before you may
be aware of the symptoms.
Also see our Vision for Life page
here for information on keeping your sight and independence for
life.
Sports
Since you need your eyes to play sports at all
doesn't it make sense to protect them as best you can? An eye injury
can make you miss the season or a lot more. If you wear sunglasses
or eyeglasses, you owe it to yourself to make sure you are wearing
the best quality. Cheap sunglasses can shatter on impact. It only
takes an instant to ruin your season and your eyesight. Get the best
you'll see better and play better, too.
Dry Eyes?

Nine - question quiz on Dry Eyes
Often we let dry eye symptoms sneak
up on us until discomfort becomes normal. That's OK if you have
like mild irritation. However, if the condition is left untreated or
becomes severe, it can result in impaired vision or, in rare cases,
vision loss.
Early treatment can minimize
discomfort and increase enjoyment of eye-stressing activities such
as reading, computing, and driving.
You are especially susceptible to dry
eye syndrome if you are over 50, are post-menopausal, have had laser
eye surgery (LASIK), or have certain diseases, such as arthritis,
lupus, or thyroid disorder.
That's why the Family EyeCare Clinic
created the following quick, nine-question quiz on dry eye syndrome,
based on the
McMonnies & Ho dry eye questionnair, and information from the Mayo
Clinic
Quiz yourself now. If you answer
yes to any three of the nine questions, it's time for a visit to
the Family EyeCare Clinic for a quick checkup and the right
prescription to relieve your symptoms. For light or moderate dry eye
syndrome, prescription eye drops are usually the best solution.
